There's a change in the wind. A new season is upon us. The air is a bit warmer. The sun stays out a bit longer. Spring has arrived! With every new season, we plan for what is ahead. For us, spring is the beginning of the busy travel season. We carefully plan out what events we are attending for the next six months. And then we hit the road!
On March 1 st, Luke and I jumped in the truck and set off for a 21 day road trip.
Wild Wild West Steampunk Convention
We each have our favorite events we like to attend the most. Between motorcycle rallies, steampunk conventions, pirate festivals, renaissance faires, and music festivals, we have it all covered! My personal favorite has always been the fantasy types, the medieval and piratical! Now, steampunk conventions. This is our first year attending any kind of Steampunk Con. I was more than just excited. I was overwhelmed with pure happiness the second I set foot in Old Tucson!
The Wild Wild West Steampunk Convention takes place in Old Tucson, Arizona. It feels like the perfect landscape for a western themed event. Old Tucson is a movie studio and theme park. It was built in 1939 for the movie, Arizona. It was also used for several western movies and TV shows such as El Dorado, The Lone Ranger and, Little House on the Prairie.
This was the seventh year for this con. And this year's theme was Dinosaurs vs Robots. Festivities began early Friday morning. Everyone arrived in their best steampunk outfit. We saw everything from robots to dinosaurs to explorers and exotic belly dancers. The costumes were simple amazing! The weekend was filled with different steampunk themed arts and crafts, live music, live performances, and of course, great food. We met some of the most creative people. We all connected with each other through a love for steampunk.
Daytona Bike Week
After a long, fantastic steampunk weekend, we were on the road again, making our way to Daytona Beach, Florida. The road trip to Florida is long and tiring. But with a great book to listen to and the beautiful scenes of the southern states, those long hours pass peacefully. By late Tuesday night we arrived safely at our home away from home.
Daytona Bike Week is the first motorcycle rally of the season. This is our third year attending the event. And every year we stay with Luke's sister and brother in law, Linda and Gonzo. They open their home to the Hattast-ique family. We love that we get to spend time with our family, even when we're travelling. We couldn't do Daytona Bike Week without Linda and Gonzo. They are the perfect touch that makes a long trip worth every mile! We are so thankful for everything they do for us during this ten day rally.
In the years before, it is usually Luke and Zack on the road to Daytona. This time I wanted to enjoy the experience. I wanted to feel that warm Daytona spring weather. I wanted to see the motorcycles make their grand appearance after a long cold winter. I wanted to hear that rally music. You know, all those 80's rock songs! I was not let down. The week quickly went by. We reconnected with our vendor families. We met new customers. It was a grand week indeed!
Though it seems like 21 days on the road is long time to be away from home, it went by quicker than I expected. It was quite the adventure. And to finally be home, with my wonderful husband and adorable dog, is the best feeling in the world!
Our next grand adventure will take place in Phoenix, Arizona! We will see you there!
Have a perfectly topped off day,
