Hattast-ique's Hats are Off to the Military Child!

April showers bring May flowers, but what some may not know is that April is the Month of the Military Child.  Here at Hattast-ique we fully support those who have served or currently serve, so this month we want to highlight the wonderful children of those who serve in our military.

Military children know that your home is where your heart is, the physical home can change.  These children tend to be strong, courageous, resilient, and know that life can be quite unexpected.  There is something truly patriotic seeing kids on a playground all stop what they are doing and stand respectfully still at the beginning and end of a day when Reveille and Taps are playing on a military installation.  The discipline and respect that this shows is truly awe-inspiring.

There are approximately 2 million military children and it is important to remember their roles and sacrifices within the military community.  The official flower of the Month of the Military Child is the Dandelion.  This particular passage by an unknown author has really pulled the essence of our military children into focus.

“The official flower of the Military child is the Dandelion.  Why?  The plant puts down roots almost anywhere and it is almost impossible to destroy.  It’s an unpretentious plant, yet good looking.  It’s a survivor in a broad range of climates.  Military children bloom everywhere the winds carry them.  They are hardy and upright.  Their roots are strong, cultivated deeply in the culture of the military, planted swiftly and surely.  They’re ready to fly in the breezes that take them to new adventures, new lands, and new friends.”

If you are or were the child of a military member you know that there are times mom or dad misses holidays, important family trips, birthdays, first days of school, and many other life events.  Thank you for being strong and courageous.  Thank you for supporting your family even when it has been hard for you. You are amazing!
