Life as an Ebb and Flow

I was reflecting on the amazing summer that I had with my family and friends and started to picture life as an ebb and flow.  Man I have been feeling on top of the world lately, I am enjoying the feeling that the bit! Me is back (basically I feel like myself again).  After a rough year, fighting personal battles, it feels like the victory has finally set in.  I had to take the journey of the ebb to find me again. It was painful. I was resistant to the fact that I had put all my self-identity and worth in my career and once that was gone who was I?  I was very lost.  You have to go through the struggles to realize how amazing the good times are or you take them for granted.

There will be times in life you got your ducks in a row, things are totally flowing.  Then along comes some life event, don’t worry we all have them, and you are back at the struggle of rebuilding.  Maybe it is a divorce, or move, or loss of a job, maybe a loved one dies, embrace that these things are going to happen, feel them for what they are, but don’t let them suck the life out of you, ride out that ebb and eventually the flow will return you to a state of contentment.  When it does just take a moment to appreciate all that it has to offer.

Realize that you are going to have to rebuild some part of your life at some point, you will have to start something over that you have worked your butt off to build, it is going to happen.  I was not prepared for this as an adult.  I knew there would be struggles that I would have to persevere through, but man I didn’t know that you will have to re-imagine who you are multiple times in life.  You will have built a life and then who and what you thought you were will be tried and tested and you will have to adapt possibly a whole new version of yourself.  Through the fight remember that you are not alone in this struggle, we each go through it at some point.  Push through and you will find you again.  The tears and frustrations will not last forever.

I will leave you with these quotes by The Rock, Dwayne Johnson:

“I like to use the hard times in the past to motivate me today.”

“Success isn’t overnight.  It’s when everyday you get a little better than the day before.  It all adds up.”

“Be the type of person that when your feet touch the floor in the morning the devil says, ‘Aww shit, they’re up!”

May you have a blessed weekend!
