America, land of the free. Home of the brave. This simple phrase has been so deeply rooted into our lives, through the many generations that have come before us. We are Americans. We founded this country on a belief that we could do things differently. We believe in life and liberty and the freedom to pursue happiness. We have fought and died for these beliefs.
Veterans Day is a national holiday, celebrated annually on November 11, to honor our military veterans. It coincides with other holidays, including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, celebrated in other countries that mark the anniversary of the end of World War I. The major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.
We take a moment today, to remember our brothers and sisters, our fathers and mothers, and our grandparents before us, who have served and protected our country. To willingly run into battle as a soldier is a courageous and honorable act of selflessness. We thank you. We honor you. We salute you.
